The Mercy of Allah: The Origin of Creation
In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate.
Before the earth was spread out, before the stars filled the sky, and before the first soul took its breath, there was Mercy. It is the first quality Allah chose to introduce Himself with, and it is the foundation upon which everything rests.
When we recite the Qur’an, every chapter (except one) begins with the invocation:
“In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate.”
This is not by accident. It is a reminder that Mercy is not a part of existence alone, but it is the very heart of it.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that when Allah created the creation, He wrote upon Himself:
“My Mercy prevails over My Wrath.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari, 3194)
From the flow of rivers to the warmth of sunlight, from the kindness found in a mother’s heart to the forgiveness extended between strangers and every act of goodness traces back to Allah’s Mercy.
Mercy Written Into Every Aspect of Life
In every leaf that unfolds and every drop of rain that falls, there are signs for those who reflect.
The Qur’an invites us to look around and recognize these signs:
“And He has subjected to you whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth — all from Him. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought.”
(Surah Al-Jathiyah, 45:13)
Science, too, opens windows into the Divine design. The perfect balance of oxygen in the air, the precision of the earth’s orbit, and the astonishing complexity of a single cell are not accidents. They are threads woven with Mercy, allowing life to flourish.
A Mercy Greater Than We Can Imagine
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ told us that Allah divided His Mercy into one hundred parts. Only one part was sent to this world. All the compassion between creatures, the love between a mother and her child, the care shown by humans and animals alike, comes from that one part.
The remaining ninety-nine parts are reserved for the Day when His true Mercy will embrace the believers beyond what they can imagine.
This knowledge gives hope. No matter how far a soul has strayed, no matter how heavy the burden of sins may feel, Allah’s Mercy is greater. The door to return is always open.
The Beginning of Our Journey
At ArRahman.io, we begin with this truth: that Mercy is the beginning, the middle, and the end of all things.
Every verse of the Qur’an, every saying of the Prophet ﷺ, every wonder of the universe, and all of them are reflections of Divine Mercy.
To understand Islam is to understand Mercy.
To know Allah is to know Ar-Rahman.
And so, we begin.
May Allah bless this effort, forgive our shortcomings, and make this space a means of drawing closer to Him.
وَاللّٰهُ أَعْلَمُ
(And Allah knows best.)
